The papers presented at the 1975 SSC Symposium highlight some recent SSC research along with other topics that are of great interest to the SSC. An electronic copy of each paper can be searched similar, to the SSC reports, on the Search Reports page or by clicking on the paper title hyper-links on the 1975 SSC symposium Agenda page.
This symposium brought together 232 participants representing all facets of ship structures including designers, operators, fabricators, regulatory bodies, suppliers and researchers. They shared and exchanged knowledge and opinions on the complex task of assuring safe and efficient marine structures.
The Symposium was sponsored jointly by the interagency Ship Structure Commitee and the Hull Structure Committee of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. Attendance was international in scope with representatives from the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Japan, Norway, Soviet Union, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The ideas brought by representatives of these nations were a great asset to the program.
In addition to the 22 technical papers presented and distributed in advance of the symposium, this volume contains certain additional information. In particular, included are: preface,; invited discussions with author replies for papers 13-16; the text of Congressman John P. Murphy's banquet address; other submited discussions and replies; a summary of each day's activity; and a transcript of the "Blue Ribbon" Panel presentation and discussions therein.
It is hoped that this proceeding will continue to aid in achieving the goals of the symposium - close the loop between ship operators, ship designers and the structural research community.
Sincerely,
Ronald K. Kiss
Chairman
