The 2007 Ship Structure Committee (SSC) Symposium was held on Thursday, October 4, 2007, in Houston, Texas at Hotel Zaza
Since SSC's last symposium on June 13th & 14th of 2000 in Crystal City, Virginia, the SSC had been looking for a venue to host the next SSC Symposium. At the same time, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), a SSC member and lead organizing agency and Secretariat for the 10th International Symposium on the Practical Design of Ships and Other Floating Structures (PRADS). The selection of Houston, Texas makes PRADS 2007 the first PRADS Symposium to be held in the United States. ABS agreed that an SSC Symposium would be a perfect addition to PRADS 2007 and invited SSC to organize a full day paper track. In turn this international gathering of naval architects, marine engineers, and scientists from around the world to present the results of their latest research, made PRADS 2007 a perfect venue to promote the SSC and host the 2007 SSC Symposium.
The SSC was honored to be affiliated with PRADS2007. The 2007 SSC symposium held on the fourth day of PRADS 2007, included a technical program that featured 12 practical and insightful papers that addressed three separate topics important in today's maritime community:
- Aluminum
- Structures
- High Speed Crafts
These papers presented at the 2007 SSC Symposium highlight some recent SSC research along with other topics that are of great interest to the SSC. An electronic copy of each paper can be searched similar, to the SSC reports, on the Search Reports page or by clicking on the paper title hyper-links on the 2007 SSC symposium Agenda page.
In addition, a professionally bound hard copy ($150)or CD ($50) version of the proceedings which includes all papers presented at PRADS 2007 and those presented at the 2007 SSC Symposium, can be purchased online at the PRADS 2007 - Proceedings webpage.
