The SSC mission is to enhance the safety of life at sea, promote technology and education advancements in marine transportation, and to protect the marine environment. This will be done through advocating, participating in, and supporting cooperative research and development in Structural Design, Life Cycle Risk Management of Marine Structures, and Production Technologies.
WHAT'S NEW
  • The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) has presented the their 2007 Medal of Exceptional Merit to Dr. Jeom Kee Paik of the National Pusan University and his team; A K Thayamballi, J Y Ryu, J H Jang, J K Seo, S W Park, S K Soe, C Renaud, H P Cojeen, and N I Kim for their joint SSC/RINA paper titled; The Statistics of Weld Induced Initial Imperfections in Aluminum Stiffened Plate Structures for Marine Applications. The Institution's Medal of Exceptional Merit, one of RINA's most prestigious awards, is awarded annually to the authors of papers of merit published in RINA's Transactions and Conference Proceedings. In addition to this honor, the following members of his team; Jung Young Ryu, Joon Ho Jang and Sun Kee Soe were awarded the Calder Prize for the best paper published by RINA on the subject of small or high-speed craft, by an author under the age of 30.

    The joint SSC/RINA paper is a summary of results obtained from project SR-1446 sponsored by the Ship Structure Committee together with Alcan Marine, France. It was presented at the 2007 Ship Structure Symposium and published in RINA's Transactions and Conference Proceedings.
