The goals of the Interagency Ship Structure Committee (SSC) purpose are to enhance the safety of life at sea, promote technology and education advancements in marine transportation, and to protect the marine environment. These will be accomplished through advocating, participating in, and supporting cooperative researches and developments in structural design, life cycle risk management of marine structures, and production technologies.

The papers program features significant practical and insightful works that address reliability/risk methodologies, crashworthiness of ship structures, human element in ship design, and emerging opportunities. In conjunction with the papers program there is an exhibits area this year. These exhibits will help one's focus on the issues and concepts being presented.

The Ship Structure Committee, the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, and the American Society of Naval Engineers cosponsored this symposium, the ninth in a triennial series. The aim of this symposium is to bring together members of the international marine industry such as ship owners, operators, builders, researchers, and representatives of the government and classification society bodies to discuss the ship structures for the new millennium.

Registration covers admittance to all technical sessions, preprints, and a copy of the final proceedings of the Symposium. The fee also includes the luncheons of Tuesday and Wednesday and the Tuesday evening reception.

A block of rooms has been set aside at the Doubletree Hotel. Information on reserving rooms is found in this brochure. Early registration for the Symposium must be received by May 31, 2000.
